Me urge contar / I feel compelled to tell

I feel an urgent need to tell the story of my country...	Me urge contar la historia de mi país…
But before telling it I had to learn, to discover the historical image that would provide sound foundations for my consciousness.	Pero antes de contarla tuve que aprender, descubrir la imagen histórica que proporcionaría bases sólidas para mi conciencia.
"Identity", "historical image" - these things are images.	“Identidad”, “imagen histórica” – estas cosas son imágenes.
We are oriented in the internal and external world, by images.	Estamos orientados en el mundo interno y externo, por imágenes.
In external things by external images, and in internal affairs by internal images. But both kinds of images have an internal origin: the consciousness, the  mind.	En las cosas externas por imágenes externas, y en los asuntos internos por imágenes internas. Pero ambos tipos de imágenes tienen un origen interno: la consciencia, la mente.
If you don't understand your own history, you don't feel truly and deeply part of your nation.	Si no entiendes tu propia historia, no te sientes verdadera y profundamente parte de tu nación.
If you do not have a clear identity, you do not belong to yourself nor can you belong to anyone, and as human beings we need belonging, self-recognition, memory.	Si no tienes tu identidad clara, no te perteneces a ti mismo ni puedes pertenecer a nadie, y como seres humanos tenemos la necesidad de pertenencia, de auto-reconocimiento, de memoria.
It is true that many human beings live with a sense of belonging, or self-recognition, or identity, that’s damaged or deficient.	Es verdad que muchos seres humanos viven con un sentido dañado o deficiente, de pertenencia, de autorreconocimiento, o de identidad.
I am convinced that this is a problem that we urgently need to address: in education, in family relations, in the study and management of coexistence between our respective groups, classes, races, religions and nations.	He aquí –estoy convencida—un problema que nos urge abordar: en la educación, en las relaciones familiares, en el estudio y manejo de la convivencia entre nuestros respectivos grupos, clases, razas, religiones, naciones.
All the more so because our species is in the midst of profound change.  And how are we going to go through this crisis without first recognizing ourselves, in the seconds preceding our transformation?	Más aún porque nuestra especie se encuentra en medio de un profundo cambio.  Y ¿cómo vamos a pasar por este trance sin primero reconocernos, en los segundos anteriores a nuestra transformación?
So here I am, facing the history of my country.	Así que aquí me encuentro, frente a la historia de mi país.
And I discover that the history of my country - apparently – also wants to help me understand it.  My country likewise, in the end, also wanted to find and contain me.	Y descubro que la historia de mi país –al parecer—también quisiera ayudarme a comprenderla.  Mi país quisiera asimismo por fin, encontrar y contenerme.

El último renglón se esfumó.  En fin, esta historia no ha terminado...
